Vinyl lettering removal is a service we offer here at Slick Mobile Detailing Services. Many businesses will wrap the side of their vehicle or their back windshield to let people know about their business and hopefully drum up more business.

Vinyl Lettering Removal

This is a fantastic way to market, however, when it comes time to sell the vehicle or to change/ close the business, there can be vinyl lettering removal that is required. This removal can leave a sticky trace, or a ghosting of the lettering on the vehicle, where you can still see in certain light what it used to say.

This is very tricky to remove and requires actually getting down into the paint and then restoring the paint after it’s been removed properly. The process starts with using a steam tool to heat the surface of the paint and then work it off with a plastic razor blade. If you want to try this at home, you can use an iron and a microfiber cloth to heat up the adhesive to make it easier to remove.

PREP-ALL Wax & Grease RemoverOnce that is done, we will use a solvent like PREP-ALL Wax & Grease Remover to remove the rest of the adhesive. Once that is completed, we move on to using a clay bar to snag and remove any leftover contaminants in the paint to ensure there are no scratches during the buffing process. Finally, we use a heavy cut foam pad and compound to remove the ghosted lettering and some final passes with a yellow polishing pad and voila! The ghosted letters are gone!

Only a professional detailing company can do this properly without damaging the surface. It’s encouraged to reach out to a company like Slick Mobile Detailing Services and have us assess the damage left on the vehicle and properly remove the ghosting lettering.

We use a process of opening up the paint surface and then properly clearing the ghosted lettering from the actual paint surface itself with professional products. Once this process is completed, and it takes some time to complete, we will then seal back up the paint with wax and a clearcoat over top to protect it.

It’s really recommended to do this professionally, because otherwise you can damage the paint and it’s likely that the ghosted letters will still be visible afterwards.
